In this project you will design a Museum Exhibit on the Mexican Independence.  To do this, you will work in groups of five to create a museum that contains exhibits on five main phases of the war for Independence.

The exhibit must incorporate a variety of elements—pictures, maps, primary-source documents, charts and graphs, timelines—to display the causes, phases, and effects of the war of Independence.

Each student will choose one of the following roles or historical figures, read on your own the task assigned to each role to choose one.

Researcher

You are responsible for researching the internal and external causes of the war for Independence.  Your exhibit must include the following  information:

Historical Figure Hidalgo

Your exhibit must include a description of the following events:

1. Brief biography of "Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla".

2. Grito de Dolores and the role of religion (Virgin of Guadalupe).

3. Attack on Guanajuato.

4. Hidalgo’s defeat and execution.

5. At least five visual elements with captions.

Historical Figure Morelos

Your exhibit must include a description of the following events:

1. Brief biography of "José María Morelos y Pavón".

2. Guerrilla warfare.

3. Congress of Chilpancingo.  Sentimientos de la Nación.

4. Morelos’s trial: Inquisition and military tribunals and execution.

5. At least five visual elements with captions.

Historical Figure Iturbide

Your exhibit must include a description of the following events:

1. Brief biography of "Agustín de Iturbide".

2. Junta with Vicente Guerrero.

3. Plan de Iguala.

4. Treaty of Córdoba.

5. At least five visual elements with captions.

Analyst (for the teams of 5 members)

Your role is to analyze the effects of the war for Independence.  Your exhibit must include the following:

1. Iturbide’s entry into Mexico City on September 1821.

2. The economy in ruins.

3. Role of the military in the political process (next one hundred years).

4. Social issues.

5. At least five visual elements with captions.
